About Lois Hornbostel

Virtuoso dulcimer player, Lois Hornbostel grew up in a musical family, listening to, and loving, music. While on a hiking trip to New Hampshire in the 1970s, she first heard the mountain dulcimer and determined to take it up. She studied with folk musician Frank Proffitt, Jr., but rather than following his Appalachian style of playing, she brought her new-found dulcimer skills to bear on the music she knew the best: celtic. In the late 1970s, she began to perform around New York City and in 1980 relocated to North Carolina to dedicate her life to her music. Hornbostel worked for seven years at Apalahian State University with the Dulcimer Workshop, and has also written four books on her instrument. In addition to touring England and Ireland, she has also recorded Vive le Dulcimer! ~ Leon Jackson
