About LIVE

The members of multi-Platinum alternative-rock band LIVE began playing music together in the early ’80s as junior high school students in York, Pennsylvania. ∙ Produced by Talking Heads’ Jerry Harrison, their 1991 debut EP, Four Songs, featured the alternative hit “Operation Spirit (The Tyranny of Tradition).” ∙ Beginning with 1994’s chart-topper “Selling the Drama,” the band released 11 singles in a row that reached the Billboard Modern Rock Top 20. ∙ LIVE’s sophomore album, 1994’s Throwing Copper—recorded at the same Minnesota studio where Nirvana made In Utero—sold more than 8 million copies. ∙ The band dedicated their biggest single, 1994’s meditative rock ballad “Lightning Crashes,” to a friend who was killed by a drunk driver. ∙ In 1997, their third album, Secret Samadhi—named for a state of Hindu meditation—debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. ∙ Trip-hop star Tricky cowrote and rapped on the 2001 pop-metal anthem “Simple Creed,” from the band’s fifth album, V.
