After graduating from the Yale Drama School, writer, actor, and comedian Lewis Black began his career as the author of more than 40 plays before becoming an actor in films and television. He appeared in films such as HANNAH AND HER SISTERS and JACOB’S LADDER, and the television shows MURPHY BROWN and LAW AND ORDER, among others. In the 1990s Black began developing his standup style, which favored political commentary and social satire, often delivered in rants. He gained national prominence as a commentator on Comedy Central’s THE DAILY SHOW, and toured the country with his standup routine. In 2000 he released his first comedy album, THE WHITE ALBUM. He has starred in several standup specials for Comedy Central, which has released his concert recordings as RULES OF ENRAGEMENT, LUTHER BURBANK PERFORMING ARTS CENTER BLUES, and CARNEGIE HALL PERFORMANCE, for which he won a Grammy. He continues to appear in film and on television, and is the author of two books.
