In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I recorded my first solo song in 2007, Do a Dub, while still in Profound Intent. Performing it at a community talent show at Charles Hart Middle School in D.C. was unforgettable and made me realize I wanted music to be my lifelong career. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Aaliyah, Aaliyah Cardi B, Invasion of Privacy Kendrick Lamar, To Pimp a Butterfly I chose To Pimp a Butterfly for its powerful storytelling, Aaliyah’s album for its timeless blend of smoothness and strength, and Invasion of Privacy for Cardi B’s raw energy that inspires me to keep confidence and authenticity in my music. Tell us why you chose this song. “Sax Vibe” I chose Sax Vibe because it’s a true account of losing what I thought was the best thing that ever happened to me. It reflects how heartbreak took me to a dark place, but also how healing—bittersweet like the sax on the hook—helped me move forward. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Releasing Problem in Harlem in 2012 was unforgettable—it made the Washington City Paper, marking the first time I fused politics with community advocacy in music. I didn’t expect it to get so much attention, despite the nod to D.C.’s Mayor for Life. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? A Grammy is definitely on my bucket list. Whether it’s for recording, songwriting, or production, that recognition would be dope. It would also bring my journey full circle from when I dropped Do a Dub back in 2007.
