Kristin Diable

About Kristin Diable

With her gritty, soulful voice and poignant roots rock songwriting, Kristin Diable has drawn comparisons to strong-willed artists Lucinda Williams and Bonnie Raitt. Emerging out of the New York City coffeeshop scene in the mid-2000s, Diable gained wider acclaim with her 2015 album Create Your Own Mythology. A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Diable got her start playing the local open mikes in her hometown before relocating to New York City in the early 2000s. Installing herself into the city's songwriter circuit, she rose through the ranks, eventually releasing her debut album, Shelter, in 2005. Three years later, she returned from the East Coast, setting up shop in New Orleans where she found a better fit for her music. Turning down an offer to compete on NBC's popular TV show The Voice, she instead set herself to the task of writing and gigging relentlessly, and by 2012 she had formed a new band, the City, to help release her second LP, Kristin Diable & the City. Touring both solo and with the City, she built up her fan base and also managed to land a song in HBO's series True Blood. Working with producer Dave Cobb (Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell), she recorded her third album, the bluesy, retro-leaning Create Your Own Mythology, which was released in early 2015. Tours followed, including appearances at the New Orleans Jazzfest in 2017 and 2018. ~ Timothy Monger
