About KIRU

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Growing up, I was only ever allowed to listen to gospel music. The song "Jesus Is A Love Song" by The Clark Sisters, performed for the 1997 release of 'Finally Karen', is the song that inspired me to sing. It still informs my vocal aspirations today. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? KIRU, Saints in the Garden Kanye West, Yeezus Lauryn Hill, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill I chose these three albums in particular because they remind me that all things are possible and that every time I write, play, edit, and perform, there is an activation of divine power that has the potential to change hearts, minds, and worlds. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Your Song” "Your Song" is a song I wrote about someone very special to me. They are the first and only person I have ever fallen in love with, and although it was unrequited, I feel amazed and inspired just knowing that I am capable of feeling so deeply. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? One of the most memorable moments in my career so far was releasing my first official album during the pandemic and receiving nearly 100,000 streams in the first few months. There was no team, no budget, just passion and music. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? My hope as an artist is to leverage the impact of the artists who have meant the most to me to touch the world in ways that only I can.
