About Justin Courtney Pierre

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My first musical instrument I played was the saxophone. I wasn't very good. My parents used to send me out into the woods behind our house to practice. We lived in the sticks. It was lonely, but I got to be as loud as I wanted. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Low, HEY WHAT Pavement, Terror Twilight: Farewell Horizontal Tom Waits, Bad As Me Currently (and ever-changing): Bad As Me/Tom Waits - It shreds. I hope I'm 0.01% as good as him in a few decades. Terror Twilight: Farewell Horizontal/Pavement - This record is HIGHLY underrated. Hey What/Low - As hauntingly good as ever. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Steady as She Goes” I try not to talk too much about meaning these days, but this was a fun song (and EP) to write, as I got to fit in a lot of scrabble words. It's all very heady. I may even have created the adverb: parasympathetically (but don't quote me on that). What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? The fact that I've been able to play First Avenue in Minneapolis, Minnesota several times over the last few decades still continuously blows my mind. It's still very strange being on the same stage I watched all my favorite bands play in the '90s. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Plenty of things. Most aren't that ridiculous. Mainly I just want to be able to tour as a solo act every now and again, and pay a full band and crew a decent wage in the process. Also, it'd be rad to tour Japan again. Record with Tom Waits? I dunno.
