About Jonny Greenwood

Jonny Greenwood lives two lives: first, as the founding guitarist and sonic glue of Radiohead, and secondly, as a world-class film composer who’s become one of the most important figures in the medium in the 21st century. Greenwood got his start in the movie industry working with director Simon Pummell on 2003’s Bodysong, but the Oxford native (born in 1971) helped change the course of modern film scoring when he collaborated with auteur Paul Thomas Anderson on the latter’s 2007 epic, There Will Be Blood. Whereas most movie scores play in harmony with the images on the screen, Greenwood often employed jarring sounds and odd-meter rhythms to create tension. He continued to hone his style while working on other Anderson projects like 2012’s The Master and 2018’s Phantom Thread soundtracks, before bringing an avant-twang aesthetic to Jane Campion’s Oscar®-nominated 2021 western, The Power Of The Dog.
