b. 1955, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Trumpeter MacLeod studied music at Humber College, receiving an award for outstanding jazz improvisation in 1975. After graduation he worked in many areas of music, meanwhile retaining his primary interest in jazz. He has worked in the theatre, as a session musician for film and television soundtracks, and in backup groups for artists visiting Canada, including Tony Bennett, Ray Charles and Nancy Wilson. The jazz musicians he has worked with include John Abercrombie, Zoot Sims, Kenny Wheeler and Phil Woods. He has also worked and sometimes recorded with artists such as Holly Cole, Brian Dickinson, Jim Galloway, the Duncan Hopkins Quintet, Inversion, Rob McConnell And The Boss Brass, the Mike Murley Quintet, Rob Piltch, the Bernie Serensky Septet, Arlene Smith, and the Spitfire Band. MacLeod also leads his own bands, including a big band, the Rex Hotel Orchestra. As a composer and arranger, MacLeod, who also plays flügelhorn, has worked with Freeflight, a Toronto big band on the 1997 recording First Flight. MacLeod, who received an award for composition from the Toronto Arts Council, teaches arranging at Humber College.
