About John Cardon Debney

Emmy-winning composer John Debney is best known for his playful comedy, animation, and adventure scores, although his dramatic projects include his Oscar-nominated score for Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ. The son of a Disney producer, he collected Disney credits of his own on shorts and TV specials before moving on to features such as Hocus Pocus (1993), Inspector Gadget (1999), and The Princess Diaries (2001). He entered the Marvel Universe in 2010 with Iron Man 2, and 2016's The Jungle Book (also with Disney) became his fourth collaboration with director Jon Favreau. Nearly 30 years after the original, he returned for the hit sequel Hocus Pocus 2 (2022), part of a streak of marquee comedies that also included the Jennifer Lopez vehicle Marry Me (2022), 80 for Brady (2023), and more.
