About Jeffrey Fisher

New age composer Jeffrey Fisher excelled in a number of fields beyond music. As a painter, he exhibited his work in museums and galleries. As an author, he published a series of books of poetry and a study of Chinese philosophy and martial arts called T'ai Chi Basics. His work as a teacher of T'ai Chi Chuan and as a practitioner of healing and massage therapy, including acupressure, Reiki, and reflexology treatments, informed the kind of music he wrote, which was, in part, intended to accompany such sessions. That was true of his albums Moon Song, One Hundred and Eight, Clouds, The Healing, and Angels of the Rays. Born and raised in Southern California, Fisher attended Pomona College, studying writing, music, and acting. He later attended the New York University School of the Arts, among other institutions, studying a wide variety of subjects. While living in Buffalo, NY, he began playing drums in a rock band, then switched to guitar, eventually settling back in California, where he began playing bass with his own jazz group. He earned a certificate in composing and arranging from the Grove School of Music in Los Angeles and continued to study privately. In the 1990s, he relocated to New Mexico to focus on painting and composition. He wrote the music for his album Triumph of the Spirit in 1996 in conjunction with a series of paintings by Charles Collins; the album was first released and marketed internationally more than a decade later, in 2007. ~ William Ruhlmann
