About Jay Kayze

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. One of Jay's biggest highlights was opening for his childhood idol, Rakim. The New Parish, in Oakland, is a staple in the East Bay's Hip Hop community. Opening there for, The God MC, is one of Kayze's fondest memories. "I'll never forget that night." What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? 2Pac, All Eyez On Me Kanye West, The College Dropout Lauryn Hill, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill Jay Kayze's love for music, like most of us, stems from his childhood. "The first five CD's I ever owned were The Big Bang, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, The College Dropout, The Eminem Show and Trouble." Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Hip Hop” For Jay Kayze, music is about expression. It's about working through personal struggles or sharing a message. "If there isn't a reason why you're saying, sharing or doing something, don't do it." For Kayze, melodies are nothing without substance. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? One of Jay's favorite moments, "I had a group of high schoolers come up to me after a show in Oakland, and they looked at me the way I look at Nas. One of 'em told me they carpooled over an hour to get there from Fresno. I couldn't believe it." Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Jay Kayze is a hopeless romantic and optimist. It's a part of his charm. When he says his goal is to save the world, he means it. At the top of his list of his bucket list are: world tour, found animal reserve, and help fix America's school system.
