About Jay Gavin

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Growing up in a tiny village on PEI the sound of a kitchen party with fiddles and guitars was what I usually feel asleep to. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Billy Joe Shaver, Tramp On Your Street John Prine, Sweet Revenge The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, It'll Shine When It Shines These are all albums I listened to when I was growing up and you can hear them in my songwriting today. I wear my influences on my sleeve. If you love these albums as much as me you'll also like my music. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Rhythms and Rhymes” I wrote this song up in the ol prison on Airdrie Hill that John Prine sings about in his classic Paradise. I was on my way to Nashville when I realized how close I was to Muhlenberg Country so I spent a day and night by the Green River. It was magic. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? We were recording Better Man when a black Caddy pulled in the driveway. Outlaw legend Billy Don Burns had just finished an album with Denny Knight, my producer. He loved the song and next thing I know, one of my heroes is doing the talking part! Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I played 100 shows in 2023 in 6 provinces and 10 states and I want to beat that this year!
