About Imants Resnis
Conductor Imants Resnis is a leading figure in his home country and has also been active abroad. He played a role in opening up Latvian musical life after the country became independent in the 1990s, and he is also a significant educator. Resnis began his conducting career during the 1967-1968 season, leading the Latvian National Symphony in an appearance at the Prague Spring Festival. Resnis became the artistic director and chief conductor of Latvia's Liepāja Symphony Orchestra in 1992, remaining in that position until 2009. Resnis made his recording debut in 1997, leading the Latvian National Symphony on several installments of a six-volume series devoted to composer Janis Ivanovs. In the mid-2010s, Resnis recorded several albums devoted to the music of composer Fridrich Bruk with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra.
