About Illum Sphere

Although Ryan Hunn -- aka Illum Sphere -- was born in London, it wasn't until he moved to Manchester and founded the Hoya:Hoya club night that his experimental electronic music began to reach a modest audience. Hunn was invited to release a series of singles on Fat City, then co-founded the Hoya:Hoya label; "Sweat the Descent" was the lead track on its first 12" (2010). The following summer, Radiohead issued an Illum Sphere remix of their "Codex." While most of his earlier material had flirted with awkward, playful rhythms, his 2012 EP Birthday was aimed squarely at the dancefloor. "Sleeprunner" preceded his first Ninja Tune album, Ghosts of Then and Now (2014). ~ James Wilkinson
