About Hiromi
Few jazz pianists are as relentlessly inventive and stylistically mercurial as Hiromi Uehara. Whether playing solo, with a trio, or an electric band, she often melds post-bop, funk, pop, and classical, sometimes in the same composition. Beginning with 2003's Another Mind, she challenged genre classifications with her technical command of the instrument, dynamic feel for harmony, and a complex rhythmic sensibility. Her longstanding Trio Project made its debut on Voice in 2011, fusing progressive, vanguard, and post-bop jazz with improvisation. The trio became Hiromi's primary vehicle, though she also found time to release Live in Montreal, a duet offering with composer/harpist Edmar Castañeda, in 2017. The solo recording Spectrum appeared in 2019. She issued Silver Lining Suite, a work of crossover classical and jazz for piano and string quartet, in 2021. Another project, Sonicwonder, made its debut in 2023.
