About Hank Harris

A seasoned singer/songwriter who has lived throughout the United States and worked in many bands, Hank Harris eventually settled in the Black Hills of South Dakota, where he began writing and recording independently released contemporary singer/songwriter albums. Born into a military family, Harris has spent time in all corners of the U.S. -- from sunny locales (Florida and Hawaii), to industrialized urban centers (Detroit and Washington, D.C.), to picturesque settings (Colorado and California). Along the way, he maintained his passion for music of all kinds, playing in numerous bands beginning in the '70s: Lonesome Prairie Playboys, Red Willow Band, R&B Supply, Sherman & the Waybacks, the Shades, Hank & Christy, D.D. & the Fayrohs, and more. Harris eventually settled in Sturgis, amid the Black Hills of South Dakota, and concentrated on his eclectic solo recordings -- World Beat Cowboy (1999), Here (2001), and Fantasy Land (2002) -- which draw from numerous styles such as Western swing and country as well as more obvious ones like contemporary singer/songwriter folk-rock. ~ Jason Birchmeier
