About Greg Boerner

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. "My older brothers were always playing the radio in the 70's...the diversity of the music and the artists really stayed with me. I certainly lean into the Blues/Americana thing when writing & performing...but those well-crafted songs never left me." What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? J.B. Hutto & The Hawks, Junior Wells, Otis Spann's South Side Piano, Chicago / The Blues / Today!, Vol. 1 Ray Charles, The Best of Ray Charles: The Atlantic Years Tom Waits, Mule Variations "Only 3 albums? Arrrgh. Ok, I consider myself a Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter - in that order. So, the blues is HUGE for me as a guitar player, Ray Charles is the greatest singer who ever lived and Tom Waits absolutely changed songwriting for me." Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Hong Kong Cafe” "It's tough to choose a song of mine. Don't get me wrong - I like my tunes - but I'd rather pick one by Ray Charles or Mose Allison. I do enjoy the groove & the imagery. It was fun to write and I was pretty satisfied when it all came together." What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? "I'm definitely an 'under the radar' artist so I haven't had a lot of BIG moments. I did open for Leon Russell which looks pretty good on the resume! More recently, a kind and gracious call from Rodney Crowell about a song I sent him was inspiring." Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? "Definitely. I wouldn't mind a call from Tom Waits, Lucinda or Derek Trucks asking me to come over and do some writing and play with the band! To be deemed worthy as a writer/performer by a few of my musical heroes would fulfill most of my dreams."
