About Glasgow

Scotland's unimaginatively named Glasgow were New Wave of British Heavy Metal latecomers who ever languished in the shadow of their more successful countrymen Holocaust -- and with good reason, since they were nowhere near as talented. Formed in 1982 by vocalist Mick Boyle, guitarist Archie Dickson, bassist Neil Russell, and drummer Joe Kilna, Glasgow did enjoy a few lucky breaks early on, such as opening for Scottish hard rock heroes Nazareth and recording a BBC Friday Rock Show session; but their debut single for Neat Records, 1984's "Stranded," met with little success, and was reputedly disliked by the band themselves, who disapproved of its ragtag metallic production. Sadly, this was about as good as it got for the hapless quartet, which languished in relative obscurity for a number of years, only to resurface with an even less satisfying and keyboard-laden album that was 1987's forgettable Zero Four One (titled after the Glasgow city area code). Sure enough, the two singles promoted from this LP were complete busts and Glasgow finally accepted their fate and gave up the ghost a short time later. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
