Fire! Orchestra is a larger, more structured version of Fire!, the Nordic experimental trio of Mats Gustafsson (sax), Johan Berthling (bass guitar), and Andreas Werlin (drums). After years of recording and touring, its creatively restless members enlisted 25 musicians and formed Fire! Orchestra, with strings, reeds, winds, and electronics. Their M.O. is to (mis)treat various traditions and perspectives in creative music to carve fresh routes using improvised sounds. 2013's freewheeling debut Exit won acclaim, as did 2016's Ritual, and 2019's Arrival. 2023's Echoes showcased 43 musicians performing a seven-part work running nearly two hours.
