Félix Godefroid

About Félix Godefroid

Godefroid studied the piano and scale-techniques at the school his father established in Boulogne. As a pupil of Naderman on the harp, Godefroid won a second prize but was not content. Further study came under the tutelage of Elias Parish-Alvars and Labarre probably including double-action harps. Later, virtuoso concerts included travels to Germany, Spain, England, Holland, Belgium and the Near East. "La harpe d'or" was an opera he composed that was performed at the Theatre Lyrique in Paris. "Mes exercises" included solo pieces which are still used. Godefroid's compositions for the harp reveal an emphasis on the left hand. ~ Keith Johnson
