About Eddie Marshall
Both a dependable session player and occasional bandleader, Eddie Marshall played and recorded in free, hard bop, and jazz-rock situations in the '60s, '70s, '80s, and '90s. Marshall moved to New York from Springfield, Massachusetts in the early '60s, and played with Sam Rivers and Stan Getz. He recorded with Charlie Mariano and Toshiko Akiyoshi. He worked in the jazz-rock bands Almanac and Fourth Way with Mike Nock in the late '60s and early '70s, then was house drummer at the Keystone Korner from 1971 to 1980, playing with Dexter Gordon, George Benson, and many others who appeared at the venue. Marshall recorded extensively with Bobby Hutcherson in the '70s, and with John Klemmer, Kenny Burrell, and Jon Hendricks. He recorded with Larry Vukovich, Bruce Forman, and the group Bebop & Beyond as a leader. Marshall did his own session (Dance of the Sun) as a leader for Timeless in the late '70s, and another set (Holy Mischief) in the late '90s on the Ruddy Duck label. Eddie Marshall died of a heart attack in September 2011 at the age of 73. ~ Ron Wynn
