Indigo Girls, Rites of Passage Bonus Track Version Jason Isbell, Southeastern Son Volt, American Central Dust All of these albums feature excellent songwriting and production techniques that highlight the songs and their stories. The Indigo Girls were my entry into modern folk rock, and they led me to the rock end of Americana via Uncle Tupelo and beyond. It was a song I needed to write in the aftermath of a cherished niece choosing suicide. I sang it at her memorial, and it was the reason I decided I needed to go into the studio and record.
