About Drive Like Jehu
At the same time as his boisterous garage-punk revue Rocket From the Crypt was catching fire in the early 1990s, John “Speedo” Reis was exploring the knottier side of guitar dynamics with Drive Like Jehu. An outgrowth of the band Pitchfork that he and friend Rick Froberg started as teens, Drive Like Jehu’s mixture of hardcore punk, math rock, and indie featured disciplined, interweaving guitars and shifting rhythms. Reis brought the group along when Rocket was signed to Interscope, and the major label released Jehu’s second album, YANK CRIME, in 1994. Though they called it quits soon after, their music created a blueprint for the late-'90s emo explosion and is often cited by musicians as a prime influence.
