Donald "Duck" Dunn

About Donald "Duck" Dunn

Bassist Donald “Duck” Dunn was the man who provided the bottom on virtually all the classic soul releases on the Stax label in the 1960s. His propulsive, rhythmic-but-melodic style shared a bit with James Jamerson and a bit with Paul McCartney, but was rooted in the bluesier sounds of B.B. King and Ray Charles's rhythm sections. Memphis native Dunn grew up with guitarist Steve Cropper, and the pair became an inseparable team in the Stax band and in Booker T. & the M.G.'s (basically an extension of the former).
