About Deaf Havana
Since forming in 2005 at college in Norfolk, England, Deaf Havana have shifted their sound from aggressive post-hardcore to Americana-influenced alternative rock to brash, anthemic pop-punk. Their 2009 debut LP, Meet Me Halfway, At Least, was heavy and in-your-face, with lead vocalist Ryan Mellor howling guttural screams above overdriven guitar riffs on songs like “Friends Like These.” Following Mellor’s departure after the album’s release, guitarist James Veck-Gilodi took over on vocals and the band moved in a less abrasive direction for 2011’s Fools and Worthless Liars and toward a heartland rock vibe for 2014’s Old Souls, which inspires fist-raising with the driving beat of “Everybody’s Dancing and I Want To Die.” In 2017, they reached for the rafters with the arena-rock rallying cries found onAll These Countless Nights, while 2018’s RITUALS brought them to a refined alt-pop sound, embracing electronic elements and building soaring melodies on tracks like “Sinner.”
