About David Andrews
David Andrews first emerged as a co-leader, along with his longtime friend Caleb Klauder, of Calobo, which started out as an acoustic duo and then grew to a full-fledged group that mixed folk music with extended jam band passages. The band built a cult following in the Pacific Northwest and released several albums throughout the '90s. Andrews first stepped out as a solo artist with an EP in the late '90s. His debut full-length, the ragged, rootsy Get Me Out of This Place, emerged in the spring of 2000. David Andrews was raised in the San Juan Islands near Seattle, WA. As a youth, he played several instruments, including saxophone, piano, drums, and guitar. He attended boarding school in Southern California, where he played in a Grateful Dead cover band and sang in choral groups. As a Junior, he started seriously playing guitar. Upon graduation, Andrews spent some time ski bumming in Ketchum, ID, where he eventually landed paying gigs at local restaurants. He soon hooked up with Caleb Klauder to found Calobo in the early '90s. In between touring with Calobo, Andrews started playing frequent shows with some Seattle musicians, eventually cutting his own album with a group that included Ted Camp, Chris Murphy, and Sean Shaklett. ~ Erik Hage
