About Dave Dallwitz

b. David Frederick Dallwitz, 25 October 1914, Freeling, Australia, d. 24 March 2003, Adelaide, Australia. In 1946, the jazz composer and pianist Dallwitz led a dixieland jazz band called the Southern Jazz Group until they disbanded in the mid-50s. He then turned to writing and performing classical music. Dallwitz returned to jazz in 1972 and led a variety of bands including a scholarly ragtime ensemble, which played the classic rags as well as his own compositions in that style. He more often wrote in a mainstream style which reflected his classical background. Among the musicians with whom he worked with are vibraphonist John Sangster.
