About Dads
Led by bassist/vocalist Bryan Harvey and guitarist/vocalist Kevin Pittman and featuring lead guitarist David Ayers and drummer Michael Tubb, this pop quartet from Richmond, VA, straddled the line between power pop and new wave, yet never captured the attention of either crowd. Their sole album, released on Estate/CBS in 1984, was filled with great upbeat pop songs with melodic hooks galore, but the production made the otherwise meaty songs sound a little hollow. Never finding an audience outside of their hometown, the Dads broke up after being dropped from the label. Half a decade after the album was released, Bryan Harvey resurfaced as the leading half of acoustic pop duo House of Freaks, then in Gutterball with Steve Wynn. David Ayers went on to join Red Snapper, a British acid jazz trio. ~ Steve Schnee
