Culture Musical Club

Founded in 1958, this group's aim is to display and preserve Swahili culture. Their original name, "Shime Kuokoana," translates as a call to preserve something about to be lost. The club has around 200 members, 35 or so of which are active, but not fully professional, musicians. They play for enjoyment and often perform at social and state functions as well as at ceremonies. ~ Steve Huey
