Carmelle

Visual artist, musician, and songwriter Carmelle Safdie established a rich practice for her music, paintings, and graphic artistry over the years, working out of a home base in Queens, New York. Along with exhibiting paintings and other artwork, Safdie co-founded, sang, and played percussion in jangly twee punk band Beachniks from 2008 until their 2013 breakup. Shortly before that breakup, Safdie began collaborating with former Beets member Juan Wauters, first appearing on his 2014 solo outing North American Poetry. The duo performed together and toured widely, working toward the more completely collaborative 2015 EP Wearing Leather, Wearing Fur, a short set issued under both players' names on the Captured Tracks label. ~ Fred Thomas
