About Bull & The Matadors
Bull & the Matadors were a Chicago-based group consisting of James Lafayette Parks (a.k.a. Jamell Bull Parks), Milton Hayes, and James Otis Love. (Another group named Bull & the El Capalaras recorded for Bell Records in 1971-72 but are a different crew.) Bull & the Matadors scored in 1968 on Toddlin' Town Records with "The Funky Judge," a raucous, hard-edge novelty with a sinister beat; the minor hit created by Andre Williams and Leo Hutton was a great party record. The follow-up, "Move with the Groove," never ignited. Len Ron Hanks, who later teamed with Zane Grey to compose "Back in Love Again," co-wrote the song with Charles Nealey and Karl Tareleton. Parks, Hayes, and Love wrote both sides of "You Decide" b/w "Love Come Down," but the 1969 issue flopped also, and they faded from the scene. ~ Andrew Hamilton
