About Bobby Page & The Riff-Raffs

The Riff Raffs were a group from Lafayette, LA, that played New Orleans-styled rock and R&B in the late '50s and early '60s. Several of the musicians in the group recorded as solo artists for the Ram label, including singer Bobby Page, singer/pianist Roy Perkins, tenor saxophonist Jimmy "Scatman" Patin, and saxophonist Harry Simoneaux. As singer in Bobby Page & the Riff Raffs, Page did a single in 1958, "Hippy Ti Yo"/"Loneliness," and another in 1962, "Like Twist"/"Tired of Hanging Around." Like the records of everyone in the Riff Raffs, these were typical and rather generic New Orleans-styled rock, with the raucous adaptation of the Cajun song "Hippy Ti Yo" being the highlight. Both sides of the two singles, plus three previously unreleased tracks, appear on the Ace compilation Roy Perkins, which has material by Perkins, Page, Patin, and Simoneaux. ~ Richie Unterberger
