About Benny Davis
A prolific lyricist, Benny Davis was also a performer of some note. As a youngster, he wrote his own material while touring the leading vaudeville circuits, and contributed the patriotic "Goodbye Broadway, Hello France," to the Broadway show PASSING SHOW OF 1917. Three years later, Davis wrote the song that he is probably best remembered for, "Margie," a huge hit for Eddie Cantor, and the title of two Hollywood musicals in the '40s. During the '20s and '30s, Davis collaborated with a variety of composers and co-lyricists, on numbers such as "I’m Nobody’s Baby," "Oh, How I Miss You Tonight" (a U.S. #1 hit for Ben Selvin), and "Carolina Moon" (a U.S. #1 for Gene Austin in 1929, and a U.K. #1 for Connie Francis in 1958).
