About Alvin Ranglin

Alvin "GG" Ranglin's career in reggae began in earnest when he joined the Maytones, along with Vernon Buckley and Gladstone Grant. Inspired by the organ-led instrumentals of Lee Perry and Harry J., Ranglin record a solo version of the Folkes Brothers’ "Oh Carolina," re-titled "The Man From Carolina," in 1970. The tune proved especially popular in the U.K. and was followed by an album of the same name. Despite this notable hit, Ranglin made his most lasting contributions to reggae behind the boards and in the studio, producing albums for Gregory Isaacs, Starlites, Barbara Jones, Leroy Smart and Big Youth.
