About Alabaster DePlume

Alabaster DePlume is the performing identity of writer, saxophonist, orator, producer, and guitarist Angus "Gus" Fairbairn, who since 2012 has been integrating jazz, global folk traditions, spoken word, and more. In 2013 he and composer/pianist Daniel Inzani issued the avant-cabaret offering The Jester. Two years later, DePlume released The Peach, a large ensemble work combining a song cycle and jazz improvisation. The experimental chamber-jazz-collection The Corner of a Sphere, followed in 2018. In 2020, DePlume released To Cy & Lee: Instrumentals, Vol. 1, on International Anthem, as well as I Was Not Sleeping with Danalogue the Conqueror. In 2022, DePlume issued Gold, weaving together poetry and spiritual jazz; it was followed a year later by Come with Fierce Grace, offering unused, thoroughly reworked material from Gold. In 2025, DePlume issued the large ensemble offering A Blade Because a Blade Is Whole, performed by his sextet and chamber strings.
