If you’re a child of the ’80s, or just love the retro aesthetic, Sonic Planet is here for you. Just as its name harks back to ’80s sci-fi and video games—the cutting-edge Chinese synthpop project is a physical and musical embodiment of exactly this throwback. Taking cues from vintage TV, sci-fi films, video games and anime, Song Planet paints its vision of a fantastical future. Between the single electronica producer behind the scenes and a collaboration project with multiple indie artists, Sonic Planet weaves together Synthwave and Retrowave to form a tantalising tapestry of House, pop and rock. Through its music, Sonic Planet's remade the world into a dizzying whirl of time travel, space exploration, flying cars and AI. But who’re behind Sonic Planet? Before taking on the role of electronic music producer, Sonic Planet’s producer and founder was once a big part of the indie band scene. As a part of a pop rock band, he toured China multiple times and performed internationally at music festivals such as Summer Sonic in Japan. He embarked on his road to music production when he found himself developing a special liking for quietly producing and creating on his own, subsequently venturing into producing music for film, TV, advertising and anime. Influenced by the resurgence in retro sci-fi and cyberpunk in pop culture, especially in iconic works Stranger Things, Ghost in the Shell, Ready Player One and Tron: Legacy, he began to tinker with the creation of Synthwave and Retrowave tunes—an exploration that gave birth to the project Sonic Planet.
