Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me - EP

The circa-2007 British preoccupation with retooling old-school girl-pop styles — Amy WInehouse, Lily Allen — brings another smart gift in the form of the Pipettes, whose Your Kisses Are Wasted on Me serves as a teaser for the coming U.S. release of their full-length We Are the Pipettes. Welding a deep knowledge of the Shirelles, Ronettes, etc., to a slightly unfinished-feeling indie sensibility, “Your Kisses” is a snappy two minutes that evokes a cheerleading squad giving a, well, kiss-off to a tiresome lover. “Guess Who Ran Off With the Milkman?,” one of two non-album cuts here, is a breakup lament from the lips of a runaway bride. That match of classic and modern should find the Pipettes plenty of avid listeners.
