Dormarion hits multiple sweet spots. There’s dirty, distorted indie rock (“Empathetic People,” “Dark to Light”), turbo-charged power pop (“Little Hill,” ”Power Lines”), and even dance excursions à la Hot Chip (“Ever True,” “Ghosts and Creatures”). That Telekinesis—a.k.a. Seattle auteur Michael Benjamin Lerner—fits these disparate sounds into the soul-satisfying puzzle of Dormarion is a testament to his mastery. When the distortion clouds disappear on the acoustic “Symphony,” superb songwriting shines brightly.
