The Juliana Hatfield Three originally made just one album: 1993’s Become What You Are, which was arguably the best and most consistent album that Hatfield ever made. Twenty-two years later, drummer Todd Philips and bassist Dean Fisher joined back up with Hatfield in the studio and made an album that very possibly could have been released in 1994 and been the follow-up that pushed the trio over the alternative-music top. Songs here such as “Ordinary Guy,” “If Only We Were Dogs,” and “Dog on a Chain” show no signs of age or of trying to be something they’re not.
