There's a strange alchemy at work on Vendaval. Rafael Meza's songs as Pehuenche have the do-it-yourself intimacy of '90s bedroom indie, but also the widescreen grandeur of the psychedelic '60s orchestral pop he clearly loves. "Despertar" is a sun-soaked rocker that's still perfect for hiding under the covers; the beautifully eerie ballad "Sin tu querer" could have easily slotted into the end credits of Twin Peaks; and "Camina" sends his angelic voice gliding through what sounds like the gorgeous final moments of a lost Beach Boys hit.
