Immix Ensemble, led by the Australian saxophonist and composer Daniel Thorne, teams up with the experimental producer Vessel on an album of striking, and occasionally unsettling, beauty. Saxophone and clarinet dance before a droning backdrop of strings and feedback on What Hath God Wrought?; De Revolutionibus stretches dissonant strings into wild, fluid forms, while the reeds of Scope are by turns bright and melancholy. Battle Cry, with its clarion horns and gunshot-like percussion, suggests 20th-century composition riding bravely into the future.
