O God Save Us All

O God Save Us All

The eclectic mix of muscular hard rock, brutal metal, and melodic balladry on O God Save Us All reaffirms why Disciple has survived and thrived for two decades. Vocalist Kevin Young leads his comrades through a bracing set of tunes that show off the band’s full sonic range while keeping its lyrics rooted in Christian faith. Disciple has always combined intense delivery with accessible songwriting, and this set is no exception. For those who admire the group’s '90s releases, songs like “Unstoppable” and “RIP” should satisfy any fan’s hunger for raw aggression. Young lets his snarling side take full control on “Kings,” the album’s most searing track. On the spectrum's other end are such radio-friendly ballads as “Draw the Line” (a celebration of spiritual surrender embellished by Micah Sannan’s chiming guitar lines) and “Trade a Moment” (a love song with both earthly and heavenly resonance). The hard-charging “Outlaws” and the uplifting “Beautiful Scars” have the ring of classic Christian rock anthems. Taken together, O God‘s tracks are a sustained testimony of belief delivered with a winning combination of ferocity and finesse.
