Topolino is a collection of B-sides recorded concurrently with the material on 1996’s Lovelife. Though “Ex,” “Carmen,” and “Tinkerbell” are three of the most definitive songs of Lush’s later career, the collection is more valuable for the slew of wonderful oddities it provides. The band chose two distinctive covers—The Magnetic Fields’ “I Have the Moon” and The Rubinoos’ “I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend”—and made the songs completely their own. “Matador” and “Cul De Sac” are two mellow near-instrumentals that reveal the influence of soundtrack composers, while “I’d Like to Walk Around in Your Mind” is a gorgeous country tune.
