Released during the 2020 lockdown with Lewis Capaldi’s US tour and summer of festival dates disrupted, this EP presents a different route into experiencing the emotive punch of the Scottish singer-songwriter live. Capaldi standards are delivered in new settings, including the room-silencing performance of “Someone You Loved” at the 2020 BRIT Awards and a slowed and disrobed studio take on “Hollywood,” which, Capaldi told Apple Music, is “the best song on [debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent] by an absolute country mile.” The bonus treat is a cover of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow,” recorded for a 2018 radio session and made entirely his own by that rangy, heartbreak-weathered voice.
