Kur
THURL

Philly-born rapper Kur has been one of the city’s most reliable independent presences since he emerged in 2017 with 180. His 2024 project THURL continues this mission of being a relatable figure in the City of Brotherly Love’s street-rap scene. Kur has always been an honest, thought-provoking MC, willing to talk about his problems and pull back the layers to reveal that not all is glittering beneath the glamour of rap success. On “Come Overnight,” he details the relentless grind of making it in the game. Over a minimal drum groove backed by a chopped soul sample, Kur raps, “They keep on askin’ why I ain’t get to the next level, but that shit don’t come overnight.” Rarely do you hear a rapper admitting that things don’t always go according to plan. Despite the struggles, Kur remains one of the most important voices in Philadelphia, which is confirmed on “Confidence Level,” his track with the city’s biggest star, Meek Mill.
