Southern California shred lords Exmortus have carved out an impressive body of work by combining '80s-style thrash with '90s-style death metal vocals and killer neoclassical leads. The band’s fifth album veers from breakneck rippers (“Make Haste” and “Feast of Flesh”) to Metallica-esque instrumentals (“A Minor Instrumental”) and burly battle hymns (“Strength and Honor” and “Victory or Death!”). The virtuosic solos and airtight riffing on “Into the Maw of Hell” and “Turn the Tide” only crank up the intensity on this triumphal slab of high-energy metal.
