King of The Decks

King of The Decks

The L.A.-based DJ Revolution is a hip-hop veteran perhaps best known for his work on the legendary Wake Up Show radio program. He's also been steadily putting out albums, singles, and mixtapes since the mid-'90s and has lent his scratching skills to countless other artists. Released in 2008 via New York's Duck Down Music, King of the Decks finds him enlisting a hip-hop head's dream team of guests, including fellow turntable icons Jazzy Jeff, DJ Premier, and Q*bert, plus L.A. homies Strong Arm Steady ("Blow Da Spot"), Bishop Lamont ("Funky Piano"), and Rakaa Iriscience ("Casulaties of Tour"). New York represents thanks to strong turns from Blaq Poet and Bumpy Knuckles ("Damage") and Boot Camp Clik ("Start the Revolution"), as well as Joell Ortiz and Sean Price. The emcees all come correct, and the cuts are expectedly fantastic. But perhaps most impressive is Rev's production: an avalanche of slick chops and bombastic beats that sets the tone from start to finish.
