The Bridge School Collection, Vol. 5 (Live)
Neil Young and his wife, Pegi, are vocal champions of the Bridge School, an innovative organization educating children with severe speech and physical impairments, and their involvement has led to numerous high profile artists performing at the school’s charity concerts. Featured here are 25 additional, previously unreleased, recordings from the many concerts over the years. These acoustic performances often shine new light on the material presented. Young, Elvis Costello and Emmylou Harris join together for Gram Parsons’ “Brand New Heartache,” while sans Young, Costello and Harris execute Young’s “Tell Me Why.” Coldplay’s Chris Martin contributes a stirring rendition of “Viva la Vida,” while Bush’s Gavin Rossdale strips “Comedown” to its evocative essentials. Sheryl Crow’s cover of The Beatles’ “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away” enjoys audience participation. The reformation of Buffalo Springfield for a scathing “Mr. Soul” is arguably the album’s centerpiece. All proceeds from the sale of the individual tracks and the album featured on this page will be donated to the Bridge School.
