The Boy Who Never

The Boy Who Never

Landon Pigg is a soft rocker from Nashville whose 2009 album The Boy Who Never is brimming over with great songs, proving that Pigg didn’t get to where he is just because of his astonishing good looks and stellar fashion sense, or the fact that his father is a well connected veteran of the music industry. Similar to Josh Rouse, Pigg has a creamy voice that butters up tastefully catchy melodies. And like Rouse, Pigg’s songs sound too sophisticated for commercial radio, but too commercial for the indie kids. Pigg delves a bit deeper into the experimental on the end of “This Far,” where his guitar squeals and howls with a shoegazer’s aplomb akin to Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood. The cosmopolitan cool of “Blue Skies” builds on dynamic layers of sound without clouding up the captivating choruses. And though the title “Falling In Love At A Coffee Shop” seems more painfully sweet than a packet of Splenda, Pigg makes it work here.
